Ventisquero Wine Estates was created in 1996 when Gonzalo Vial Vial, founder of the South Chilean global food producer AgroSuper, was inspired to produce wines that would reflect Chile’s extraordinary terroir and history. Gonzalo partnered with Martín and Eduardo Silva, and Aurelio Montes to source land for the new winery, and in 1998, they purchased the winery’s first vineyards at “Trinidad” along the coast of Maipo Valley.
In 1999, the winery was officially named Viña Ventisquero, in honor of Patagonia’s “hanging” glaciers. The first vintage, crafted by Felipe Tosso, Head Winemaker at Ventisquero Wine Estates, was released in 2001. Viña Ventisquero continued to grow in the past two decades, acquiring vineyards in the famed wine territories of Colchagua (situated between the Andes and Coastal mountains and renowned for Cabernet Sauvignon), Casablanca Valley (situated between Santiago and the port city of Valparaiso and famous for Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah production), Leyda Valley (situated by the Pacific Ocean and revered for Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir), and in the Huasco Valley (situated in the southern part of the Atacama Desert), as well as establishing offices in Europe and the United States.
In 2020, Viña Ventisquero became “Ventisquero Wine Estates” to reflect the winery’s expansion into a global enterprise that exports 1.5 million cases of wine abroad annually. Ventisquero Wine Estates is also mindful of the environmental impact of its operations. All its vineyards bear the “Certified Sustainable Wine of Chile” Seal.
Chile is a land of geographical extremes and Ventisquero Wine Estates has dared to plant vineyards in the country’s most geographically challenging landscapes. This has enabled Felipe to apply his expertise toward creating unique and complex quality wines that are emblematic of the diverse Chilean terroir.
